On the happiness of being unhappy: the debut single HAPPY AND I HATE IT, from Lulu Schmidt, emerges on 8/2/2019. She sings about the discord which follows us on social media.
Increasing the number of followers without forcing likes; this is a type of training, and Lulu Schmidt makes this into a public workout. She performs her reflections upon social media channels together with the rapper Klumzy Tung. The song was co-produced by Shaban.
Generally, we all like to stay authentic and not be swayed by trends. However, there’s a reward center in the brain, which responds to hearts and likes. If one presents one’s whole self, rather than only the aspects that one wishes to show - then who is the true self? And what
are we to do with the hidden parts which remain? Well, Lulu Schmidt has a song about this, with totally danceable beats, which you really need to follow.
Nowadays, Instagram and Co. are important mouthpieces for artists. One MUST love them. One can, and should, create a new social media world completely true to the motto: “two realities: buy one, get one free!”. But what should one share there? A picture of permanent happiness and success, whilst secretly hating oneself? We bend our lives to fit into an approved narrative, flirt with the algorithms, and reveal more of ourselves than we are comfortable with. And we become happier every second, whilst in reality the world bleeds. Sounds crazy? It is.
The results of Lulu’s reflections can be heard in “Happy and I hate it”. The song straddles art and pop, calls for both rebellion and courtesy, concompasses polar opposites, embraces all contradictions: it’s (anti) pop with ambition and depth.
